Vineyards

The Chablis, Irancy and St. Bris vineyards are within a half-hour drive from Mailly le Château. The Meursault and Montrachet vineyards are just over an hour’s drive south. Wine tastings and tours to the many vineyards in the Chablis and Burgundy regions can be arranged.  Wine Liaisons

 

Cycling

Guests can enjoy the beauty of the Burgundian countryside from the bike path running most of the length of the Nivernais Canal. For those willing to brave the hills, Vézelay is just under an hour’s bike ride away through rolling hills of farmland and forest. Trail bikes are available for guests.

 

Hot air ballooning

Hot air balloon rides can be arranged from the lawn, weather permitting, or flights depart from Vézelay twice daily.  France Balloons

 

Rock climbing

The Rochers du Saussois, a popular rock climbing destination, is within easy walking distance or a short car ride from the château. Guests would need to provide their own equipment.

 

Running

Running races ranging from 10 to 21 kilometers are organized in the neighboring towns every Sunday from March to October.  Marathons ahotu

 

Boating

Short trip boat trips of 2 to 4 hours along the Nivernais Canal are offered by a local company.  Plaisance Fluviale 89

 

Kayaking

Several local companies provide interesting itineraties for canoeing trips along the Cure River. Two such companies are located at Saint Père, the village below Vézelay. During the season they offer at least 6 departures daily from each base. One easy route is 8km long and takes 2 hours. Hiking

The region is famous for its well sign-posted walking paths which traverse the undulating countryside passing through woods, small villages and beside rivers. Guests can find itineraries with maps and route descriptions at the château. For guests who prefer a more leisurely pace, they can wander down the hill and follow the well-maintained foothpath which hugs the canal leading off towards Chatel Censoir in one direction and Prégilbert in the other.

 

Horse riding

Leisurely outings on horseback are a wonderful way to discover the natural beauty of the National Park of the Morvan. Two equestrian clubs are within close proximity to the château and both centres offer lessons, outings and treks on horseback for riders of all levels.  Les Écuries de la Croix des Bois  or  L’Ecurie de la Fontaine 

 

Tennis

For tennis lovers there are local courts just 3km down the road at Merry sur Yonne. They have a snack bar and showers. Tennis racquets and balls are available at the château.

 

Sporting equipment and facilities available at the château include:
